The Role of AI in Game Storytelling and Narrative Development
Abstract
Since the emergence of video games, storytelling has become a significant aspect of narrative development. Significant advancements have been made in this area by incorporating diverse narrative delivery methodologies that make players interested and focused on farther improvements. With the help of AI, game development, and design many other enhancements can be expected to take place. Game developers have been focusing on animations to draw the attention of the players towards a particular genre in narrative development. By incorporating NPC into the animations enhanced the believability towards the players, and increased the focus on the narrative genre as well. According to a global perspective, based on the previous empirical evaluations concerning AI in games believe that it might be an innovative breakthrough in games AI field to create an adaptive environment for the players. Storytelling creates an emotional bond between players and the narrative of the game. By delivering it effectively, the players turn into engaged audiences. A greater number of developers are inclined to integrate AI into the storytelling and emphasize further research on its qualities. Storytelling in the form of gameplay is an effort to refine the experience by rearranging the set pieces of the story together with the gameplay by using the emergence properties of the environment. Further developments of the games allowed the players to make moral choices, play more and more parts, and uncover the story according to the pace which will be involving branches, ever providing more depth, complexity, and storytelling. AI can be used to enhance different storytelling components, in the case of game dialogue, developers attempt to produce more immersive and engaging games with just voice-overs. AI can be used to make adaptive dialogues, carry a full dialogue system which relies upon NLP techniques or format the voice-overs to interact with the current events of the game. Since synchronized Environment, Characters, and Animations are necessary for the believability of the NPC in animations, it creates new optimization variables that can lead to better story generation. By asking open questions concerning the animations, a broader perspective will be presented, and additional perspectives will be provided for the developers and the players as well. Apprehension behind each perspective concerning the animations and NPCs in the animations is clarified to be more comprehensive. Lastly, under-researched perspective is explained, which incorporates simultaneous animations into the believability bounce and how this can affect the game developers and the players in the future games.
